The start of a new year at Colonia Ecologica

Right. I think I finally figured out to set up my own blog for Charity Bolivia. As we (Claire and I, Claire's parents, Bob and Val and Claire's brother, Paul and his wife, Sarah) have visited Colonia Ecologica over Christmas, I want to let you all know how it went.

Before we went, we visited La Cancha, the biggest open air market in Bolivia and maybe South America to buy some presents for the children. This was very interesting because it was about 10 times more crowded than the normal Wednesday or Saturday. After wondering around for about 2 hours we had enough. We also had enough presents so that was ok. We also bought them lots of books for the children to practise their reading skills.

On Friday 24th December, we went to Colonia Ecologica to represent Charity Bolivia. They were very pleased to see us and all the children were very enthusiastic. First we gave them all the books and some of them started reading them straight away. In total we gave them about 40 books. Then it was time to play football. There were about 50 to 60 children so we had to divide them into 3 teams. As you probably know, there is less oxygen at an altitude of 2600m than there is in Holland at sea level (or less) or in England which has some hills. But we did very well and Bob even scored a goal.

Later when only the children who live at Colonia Ecologica were left we gave them their individual presents and they where very pleased and started playing with them straight away. So all in all it was a very successful day.

We want to thank Bob and Val and Paul and Sarah for their donations and help.
Of course we also want to thank everybody who donated to the charity in the past year so that Kiko and Carmen could start building the roof and some of the walls on the second floor at Colonia Ecologica.

Thank you all very much and we wish you a good 2005!

Gertjan and Claire, trustees of Charity Bolivia.
